VoIP Solutions Provider VSNL Using Ditech Networks' Voice Quality Solutions

Faced with the challenge of maintaining signal quality in light of an ever widening array of codecs used on its network by its growing base of service provider customers, Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL (News - Alert)), a leading provider of VoIP solutions in India, has selected Ditech Network's Packet Voice Processor (News - Alert) (PVP) platform.

Ditech Networks is a provider of voice quality solutions for wireless and wireline networks.

Supporting a comprehensive range of codecs, including G.711, G.721, G.722, G.722.1, G.722.2 (GSM-AMR WB), G.723.1, G.726, G.727, G.728, G.729/a/b/ab/e/g, Speex, iLBC, iSAC, GSM-AMR, GSM-HR, GSM-FR, GSM-EFR, EVRC, 4GV, AMBE, BV16/32, the PVP platform offers a transcoding solution to address such challenges. With its ability to establish a consistent codec interface between users and all core network elements, the solution gives VSNL a way to handle hundreds of calls per second and thousands of active sessions with little or no delay. As such, the solution will enable VSNL to reduce equipment costs, improve interoperability, and allow for network growth both efficiently and cost-effectively.

“In today's market where codec proliferation will only continue to rise, it is important that we support the codecs that are currently implemented by our customers,” said Michel Guyot, President, Global Voice Solutions, VSNL, in a press release. "Ditech's diverse codec library enables us to interconnect the highest number of voice calls possible, while maintaining the high network performance that our customers expect from us.”

VSNL operates one of the world’s largest submarine cable networks and is one of the world's largest providers of wholesale international voice services. The company peers its VoIP traffic with many leading telecommunications carriers. Many of these carriers, however, utilize different codecs, and with the rapid increase in the number of codecs used around the world, it had to find a way to quickly and cost-effectively translate a wide variety of codecs to maintain service quality. Ditech’s Packet Voice Processor (PVP) platform will go a long way to help solve this challenge.

Ditech Networks (News - Alert) made news on TMCnet in September when it announced that it had promoted Todd Simpson (News - Alert) as the company’s new president and CEO. Simpson, previously VP of marketing, joined Ditech Networks through its acquisition of Jasomi Networks, where he served as president and CEO. Prior to Jasomi, he was CTO of Zi Corporation, plus he has been noted for having founded several successful Canadian high-tech firms.
