Ribbit Introduces Amphibian

By Raju Shanbhag
TMCnet Contributing Editor

Just one month after its corporate launch, Ribbit (News - Alert) -- Silicon Valley's first phone company -- is ready to unveil its first consumer service. The service is code named “Amphibian” and it transforms any physical phone into a physical/virtual "dual world" phone. With this new service, customers can use their current phone plans in any number of new and evolving Web environments.

Amphibian integrates voice into any number of Web environments including social networking pages, Web-based applications, and mash-ups. With Amphibian, customers can continually update their personal service with innovations created by the Ribbit Developer Community as the service is built on the Ribbit open platform.

Crick Waters, co-founder and VP of Strategy and Business Development of Ribbit, said in a company press release, “There was a time when most of us lived in only one world -- the physical world - and traditional telephony was the only option. Many of us migrated to the virtual world of the Web as the first wave of Web-based and VoIP solutions began to emerge. But the flow of personal and business communication continues to evolve, and soon all of us will need to thrive in both worlds, and move between them with ease. That's the vision behind voiceware and Ribbit's Amphibian service.”

The voiceware provided by Ribbit is a new category of application which allows developers to bridge the gap between traditional telephony and the Web. With this, they can also integrate voice communication into the flow of business and personal life. Ribbit has announced the opening of a new online marketplace for voiceware applications being developed in partnership with its 2,500-plus developer community.

You can find Ribbit voiceware applications, voice widgets, social feeds, and other voiceware products and services at Ribbit Store. The store also lets third-party developers with the opportunity to market and monetize their applications.
