TeliaSonera Expands IP Network in Ukraine

TeliaSonera (News - Alert) has reportedly expanded its extensive international backbone into Eastern Europe and set up its first point of presence in Kiev. The Carrier will help the customers experience high quality IP services and connect locally to a large and fast growing IP-backbone.


Malin Frenning senior vice president of TeliaSonera and Head of TeliaSonera International Carrier said in a statement that the expansion into Eastern Europe is an important strategic step in their ambition to become one of the three largest global IP carriers.

Frenning noted that their Kiev POP is a tangible sign of their belief in the Eastern European market and developing Eastern Europe presence and delivering high quality IP services locally and globally is the future for TeliaSonera International Carrier.

The company explains that Ukraine is one of Europe’s fastest growing countries in terms of economic growth. Due to increased Internet usage the region is experiencing an increase in the need for IP solutions. TeliaSonera International Carrier is currently providing services to telecom operators, Cable TV companies and Internet Service Providers in Ukraine.

TeliaSonera International Carrier provides wholesale international IP, Capacity and Voice services to major destinations in Europe and across the Atlantic.
