NetMotion Wireless ( News - Alert), a provider of mobile productivity and management software, has released version 8.0 of Mobility XE, a mobile virtual private network (VPN ) software.
This latest version provides new security controls that extend corporate security policies to mobile devices without impacting mobile worker productivity, according to NetMotion Wireless.
Moreover, this new version enables enterprise customers to use the software to deploy applications like Voice over IP (VoIP ) and streaming video, also over wireless networks that are known as being prone to high packet loss.
Bob Hunsberger, President and CEO at NetMotion Wireless, noted that in today’s mobile economy, it’s imperative that his company both anticipates and delivers on innovations that enable customers to maximize productivity and stay competitive.
“Our latest version of Mobility XE allows IT administrators to build flexible and intelligent security policies for their mobile workers and implement new VoIP and video applications, without compromising productivity,” he said.
Designed to meet security and connectivity needs of mobile field personnel, Mobility XE version 8.0 allows devices to connect to the enterprise network after meeting specified security policies. Company officials pointed out that it also gives administrators control and flexibility over how and when to administer remediation policies.
Additionally, the Mobile Network Access Control (NAC) features of Mobility XE are compatible with security products, allowing administrators to automatically check compliance for required software, such as Antivirus; Antispyware; Firewall; and more.
Officials explained that Mobile NAC deploys in minutes with Mobility XE version 8.0, eliminating the need to reconfigure network infrastructure. Also, Mobile NAC integrates with Mobility XE's Policy Management module, which provides administrators control over the response to a device that does not meet security guidelines.
In addition, Mobility XE supports traffic-shaping to guarantee VoIP traffic receives priority over other applications, ensuring that the call is allocated as much of the available bandwidth as is necessary to maintain call quality, regardless of the wireless network in use, said officials.
“Solutions like NetMotion Wireless' Mobile VPN make it possible for enterprises to optimize their mobile implementations and take advantage of converging trends in VoIP and streaming video as their use extends to multiple wireless environments,” said Nathan Dyer, senior analyst at Yankee Group ( News - Alert).
