BroadSoft Debuts VoIP Applications in Bangladesh

VoIP application software provider BroadSoft introduced its BroadWorks VoIP application platform in Bangladesh this week.

The IMS-compliant BroadWorks platform seems to be a good choice for the more rural and remote sections of Bangladesh, where telecom services are not always available. The platform features include hosted PBX (News - Alert), Business Trunking, Mobile PBX and Call Center.

BroadSoft (News - Alert) is committed to being a catalyst for improving the communications infrastructure in Bangladesh and prompting further investment and advancement of technology in this emerging market,” said BroadSoft’s president and CEO Michael Tessler in a statement. “We believe BroadWorks can help eliminate the global digital divide and assist the people of this great country in pursuing business and educational opportunities.”

The platform will be distributed to enterprise and residential customers throughout Bangladesh by UTC Associates. According to BroadSoft’s officials, UTC not only has strong ties with that country, but it also runs a R&D facility and development center there through Vonair, Inc., one of the company's subsidiaries.

“Having a world-class company like BroadSoft bring its voice applications to Bangladesh is good for the economic development of all industries in this emerging gem of Asia, from software to telecom infrastructure,” stated UTC Associates’ president and CEO Aziz Ahmad. “While making its VoIP products available to the more than 9 million cellular subscribers, BroadSoft also will help the country’s communications system leapfrog to the most advanced communications technologies, which will enable businesses and professionals to be more productive.”

Today’s news follows BroadSoft's announcement earlier this month about its BroadWorks SIP Trunking Solution being compatible with Avaya's (News - Alert) one-X Quick Edition. Avaya’s SIP-based one-X Quick Edition distributes PBX functionality through its phones. The BroadSoft-Avaya combo would make it possible for smaller businesses to easily add SIP-based communications services to their offerings.
