Vitelity CEO Discusses Service Provider IP Telephony at ITEXPO
By Rich Tehrani, CEO, Technology Marketing Corporation
Founded in 2003, Vitelity Communications (News - Alert) built its VoIP network from the ground up, maximizing alliances and leveraging decades of telecommunications experience and expertise.
Vitelity Communications provides one of the nations largest VoIP networks to service providers worldwide. Vitelity provides OnNet local number service to 93 percent of the U.S. calling areas with termination covering destinations worldwide. By utilizing the infrastructure and service of the major U.S. telecommunication carriers, including XO, Global Crossing (News - Alert) and Level(3), Vitelity is able to provide a quality voice product.
Vitelity Communications’ CEO, Greg Giagnocavo, will be a valuable speaker at ITEXPO, which takes place in Los Angeles, from September 16-18. During his session, “Service Provider State of the Industry,” Giagnocavo will join some of the industry’s leading experts in a round table discussion of where exactly we stand in regards to Service Provider IP Telephony. Discussing current industry news, the session will offer perspectives from the main players who are exploring next-generation solutions, including the latest developments and a glimpse into the future
I had the opportunity to ask Giagnocavo several questions before his appearance at the upcoming ITEXPO (News - Alert).
RT: What has been your company’s biggest achievement in 2008 so far?
GG: Well, we are excited and proud that we’ve been able to increase revenues by 70 percent in the last twelve months. It’s a great validation of our strategy and of our products and services mix.
RT: What can we expect to see from your company in the next 12 months?
GG: We’re developing more online tools for customers and resellers to use for “self service”, that is, user-facing portals that allow the customer to fully control their account activity. We now offer the ability online for customers to order and control all aspects of their account. And, we’ve introduced private labeling as well, which allows our resellers to brand our amazing interface with their logo, colors and brand. That way, any reseller can offer all that we offer, without having to set up and maintain large scale and complex systems. Any reseller can be setup and operational within about an hour. So the trend is for us to offer more easy-to-use online tools.
RT: How do you see the communications market evolving?
GG: Looking back over the last four years, it’s easy to forget that in the summer of 2004, Vonage (News - Alert) had less than 60,000 subscribers. As far as I know, I think they say that their subscriber count is close to 2 million. Other well-known providers on a national scale, such as Packet8, also have similar success stories. This doesn’t say as much about any particular provider as it does about the market- that is, three and four years ago, the topic of conversation was, “When will the marketplace accept VoIP and, trust it?” Now, that topic is not any longer relevant. The new topic of conversation has to be, “How can we build problem-solving services, using what the VoIP technology has to offer?” So, I look to see more products and services built to serve vertical marketplaces, services that bridge mobile phones to VoIP and landline, and services that use mobile phone technology facing the user but use many features of IP telephony.
RT: What mobile phone(s) do you use?
RT: What will attendees learn about in your session at ITEXPO this September?
GG: We’ll touch on some of the emerging products and services that ‘stretch’ the use of IP telephony.
RT: What type of attendees do you think should come to your session?
GG: The session could be of interest to anyone who is curious about, and interested in, what is developing in new and different services.
RT: Why should customers choose your company’s solutions?
GG: Although it is self-serving to say this, I believe that Vitelity has a broad enough range of products and services to serve individuals, small business and resellers/wholesalers. We have prices that are about as low as anyone, yet we don’t want to compete on price alone. I think anyone would be pleased with the ease of use and value in using the Vitelity user portals, as well. Vitelity has and will continue to invest in infrastructure and network to deliver high quality.
RT: Please make one surprising prediction for 2009.
GG: I don’t pretend to be able to surprise you, but I believe that some trends are interesting and inevitable. Overall, I think a year from now, we will be pleasantly surprised at many of the services available using the mobile phone. Mobile phones are rapidly going to become landline replacements for many people, and for businesses mobile phones will become more and more integrated into their “normal” telephone systems. PBX switches will more easily allow mobile phones to function as extensions to a business PBX. Mobile phones in the U.S. will be able to have more than one telephone number.
