ooma (News - Alert), a provider of contract-free voice over IP (VoIP) phone service in the U.S., announced enhancements to its phone system. The new services aim to deliver an unparalleled home phone experience with significant cost savings.

The ooma (News - Alert) phone system now allows users to add additional phone numbers for their home office and each member of the family; it supports up to nine numbers. These numbers can be selected from any calling area in the U.S. There is a provision to configure each number with different ring pattern so it is easier to differentiate between the calls.

The mobile integration feature of the new system allows users to configure their system to simultaneously ring or forward to a mobile phone or another phone number of their choice.

The new voicemail feature lets users send a copy of each voicemail to their e-mail mailbox. Voicemail notifications and attachments can be delivered to up to three different e-mail or SMS addresses.

Also, users can now set up virtual numbers to ring on a specific phone within the home via a personal number. Each personal number has a separate voicemail box and ooma Lounge account. This means each member of the family can listen to their own voicemail and manage their online account.

The ooma Lounge provides access to information on incoming and outgoing calls. Using this data, users can add specific phone numbers to a personal or community blacklist and prevent those callers from getting connected to the ooma phone system.

The ooma system consists of the ooma Hub connected to a broadband connection and a primary phone, plus an ooma Scout device that extends the unlimited telephone service to other telephones throughout the house. Ooma Hub is a Linux-based platform that enables users to benefit from these new features and services seamlessly. The new features and services are offered as software-only updates through ooma Premier service. The system includes a free 60-day trial of ooma Premier.

“The new ooma phone system offers consumers expanded calling capabilities and conveniences that cannot be matched by traditional telephone and VoIP providers at an unrivaled cost savings,” said Andrew Frame, ooma CEO, in a statement. “Consumers that are thinking about ways to eliminate unnecessary and costly monthly telephone bills should consider switching to ooma.”
