Integra Telecom Rolls Out VPN Service Based on MPLS Technology

Integra Telecom today introduced VPN Solutions, an Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP-VPN) offering providing a secure, multi-site, private network telecommunications service, and Network Solutions, a secure private network transport service.

Both use Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology, which allows business customers to combine voice, data and Internet traffic on a single IP-based network. These new offerings are now available throughout Integra Telecom’s service footprint, including Arizona, California, Idaho, Minnesota, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

"Integra's MPLS technology gives businesses a competitive edge," said Trent Anderson, vice president of product marketing for Integra Telecom, in a release. "These new services allow our customers to maximize their telecom investment by eliminating the excess costs associated with supporting several networks."

Companies which use these new services will have the option to control their network on their own, depending on whether they use it for voice, data, video or other mission-critical applications, or have Integra do it for them. Key advantages of Integra’s MPLS Technology include the ability to connect and mesh multiple locations with an array of access types, upgrade bandwidth and change network configuration with minimal effort and cost; converge multiple applications and traffic types onto a single network; and the ability to prioritize voice and other bandwidth intensive applications. Locations can be easily added or removed.

Integra Telecom owns and operates a best-in-class fiber-optic network comprised of metropolitan access networks, a nationally acclaimed tier one Internet and data network, and a 4,700-mile high-speed long haul network. These networks deliver voice, data and Internet communications to thousands of business and carrier customers in the Western United States.

Integra Telecom made news on TMCnet last week when it announced that it had recorded a 20 percent spike in business Internet traffic on March 19-20, compared to two weeks previous, as March Madness swept through the nation -- and worker productivity -- during the first round of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament.

"Although many of our business customers may want to believe that the increase in Internet traffic is related to increased business activity, it's likely that much of the extra traffic is the result of streaming online video of the NCAA basketball tournament and employees checking their brackets," said John Nee, vice president of corporate communication for Integra Telecom, in a release.
