VoIP solutions provider VocalTec (News - Alert) Communications has announced it achieved a breakthrough in its pursuit to bolster its position in the emerging markets of Eastern Europe with the announced that its Essentra VoIP softswitch received Interception certification from the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute.

VocalTec provides VoIP trunking, VoIP peering and residential/enterprise VoIP application solutions that enable flexible deployment of next-generation networks (NGNs).

The certification means that VocalTec's Essentra softswitch solutions meet all technical requirements, and helps pave the way for commercial deployment in Ukraine. The company said that it is one of the first companies to receive such certification.

The certificate is vital for the Israeli company as it has long been attempting to cash in on operators across the region. Last month, Netcom, an alternative carrier in Kirgizstan, selected VocalTec for its VoIP solutions for next generation networks.

VocalTec has already made ground preparations to set its foot firmly in the region, establishing an R&D center in Ukrainian city of Lviv which joins the company's global R&D team in developing and delivering VoIP services and technologies.

“The development center, together with VocalTec's marketing and business development initiatives in the Ukraine and across the region, continue to solidify VocalTec’s position, allowing the company to better serve its growing customer base,” said the Israeli firm, whose clientele include Deutsche Telekom (News - Alert) and Telecom Italia.

"These achievements mark an important milestone in our penetration into the Ukraine market," also said Ido Gur, President and CEO of VocalTec.
