Streamcore Addresses Remote Desktop Virtualization Challenges

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Streamcore, a provider of appliances for managing application and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) delivery over the Wireless Area Network (WAN), has announced it is offering solutions that address the performance challenges associated with desktop virtualization at remote offices.

Desktop virtualization creates a greater need for WAN traffic visibility. VDI traffic is highly susceptible to poor application performance. Streamcore’s solutions provide the visibility needed to manage VDI traffic and swiftly troubleshoot application performance issues.

Streamcore’s solutions enable enterprises to overcome poor application performance of virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) traffic, such as Microsoft (News - Alert) Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) and Citrix ICA protocol, exchanged between virtual machines in the data center and clients at remote sites, officials said.

Streamcore products enable enterprises to benefit from all-in-one visibility – network, applications and VoIP– real-time monitoring and advanced on-demand reporting from a single centralized management console.

What makes Streamcore unique is that visibility and advanced performance control features are tied together, and can be enabled from data centers to ensure fast deployment and cost-efficiency.

In addition to providing granular visibility, Streamcore provides real-time application response measurements of VDI traffic. With these capabilities, IT staff can continually monitor how VDI traffic is performing and proactively control traffic. Streamcore’s reporting can also be provisioned to automatically highlight which remote branch offices are suffering from the worst performance and to identify the root cause.

“Streamcore’s ability to automatically prioritize VDI traffic based on its behavior is unique in the market and is highly important to the success of any desktop virtualization efforts,” said Frédéric Hediard, vice president of product management at Streamcore.

“Not only do we manage the VDI traffic and other flows that are all competing for bandwidth, we prioritize VDI sessions as well,” Hediard said. “As a result, VDI traffic performs well and the full benefits of desktop virtualization can be realized.”
