18 USO Centers Deploy IPEVO Internet Phones

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

IPEVO, a designer and manufacturer of Internet-based devices, has said that 18 USO (United Service Organizations) centers across the Pacific Region will deploy the company’s S0-10 Skype Desktop Phone and S0-20 Wi-Fi Phone for Skype devices.

According to IPEVO (News - Alert) officials, using Skype and the IPEVO phones, more than 890,000 troops and their families that use the centers each year will now have a free communications link back home, without the need for a computer to make calls.

Officials said that the S0-10 is a fully certified desktop Skype (News - Alert) phone for the home and office. Connecting directly through an existing network, the S0-10 eliminates the need to use a computer for IP calls.

The S0-20 is a Wi-Fi phone that gives users the flexibility and mobility to use Skype wirelessly in a home or office.

"The USO is excited to be able to connect our men and women in uniform with those who travel with them in spirit, silently supporting them from the other side of the world," said Tom Kolstad, region vice president, USO Pacific, in a statement.

Kolstad said that the service that IPEVO phones will provide to the military and their families to call home is priceless.

"With the number of military personnel around the world, we understand the importance of being able to hear the voice of a loved one," said Royce Hong (News - Alert), CEO of IPEVO, in a statement.

Hong said that the company jumped at the opportunity to give back and provide the troops with products that will improve their quality of life while serving the country.
Earlier in March, IPEVO, Inc. had announced the commercial availability of its Kaleido R7 wireless digital frame.

With the Kaleido R7, PC and Mac users have the ability to sync and stream their most important content – whether it is from a memory storage device, or wirelessly from the computer hard drive or the Web. When keeping the computer switched on isn’t practical, up to 3,000 images can be transferred from the hard drive or photo applications like iPhoto, and stored on the frame.

Also in March, the company launched a high performance VoIP conference phone and a universal VoIP handset, TMCnet reported.
