Karil Reibold is the New CEO of Whaleback Systems

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Whaleback Systems’ chief financial officer (CFO) Karil Reibold is now the chief executive officer (CEO) of the company.

The 20-year technology veteran has been serving Whaleback since October 2008 and was responsible for finance and administration. She will now look after all aspects of Whaleback’s operations including administration, engineering, finance, human resources, sales and marketing.

In a release, Walter Dick, managing director of Ascent Venture Partners and board member of Whaleback, said Karil is a respected technology veteran helping build businesses rooted in sound execution and value-creation.

Dick noted Karil as a successful person who has guided early- and mid-stage companies over the course of her career. She has helped them introduce compelling technology solutions to both the enterprise and consumer markets that built value for shareholders and customers alike.

“She brings a keen focus and the critical expertise on how to lead organizations and teams to execute, scale and manage growth successfully,” he said.

Karil has helped many companies raise in excess of $300 million in venture capital. She has also worked on staff or as a consultant to venture funds in Silicon Valley and Boston. In her role as an entrepreneur in residence for Norwest Venture Partners, she served as an operating partner to help numerous portfolio companies.

She has worked as CFO and vice president of finance and operations for Annuncio Software. Karil worked with over 20 startups such as Netratings (NTRT) as a partner at David Powell, Inc. Financial Services.

Reibold observed that businesses are continuing to transition from circuit-switched to packet-based telephony systems and services. She sees this as a tremendous opportunity for companies like Whaleback who can deliver more value, features and efficiencies to the SMB market than the incumbent class of service providers and PBX (News - Alert) vendors.

“I've surveyed the telecom industry and chosen to join Whaleback because Wray West, founder and technical visionary, and his team, themselves successful pioneers from the earlier stage of the VoIP market, clearly understand the implications and possibilities for IP telephony in the enterprise and SMB markets,” she said in the release.
