Fanfare, Shenick to Develop Integrated IP Communications Test Solution

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Fanfare (News - Alert), which provides testing solutions to network equipment manufacturers, or “NEMs,” service providers “SPs,” and enterprises, announced a partnership with Shenick (News - Alert) Network Systems, a provider of IP communications test and performance monitoring systems, to build an integrated IP communications testing solutions.

The new solution, according to officials, will enable carriers and device manufacturers of next generation networks, or “NGN,” and next- generation wireless products and applications, such as Long Term Evolution, or “LTE (News - Alert),” to streamline communication during acceptance testing, reducing the amount of time required to resolve issues.

Tom Ryan, CEO of Fanfare, said that the partnership with Shenick is a natural choice for Fanfare as customers continue to develop and deploy increasingly complex next-generation wireless and wireline products and applications that require advanced testing methods.

“The combination of Shenick's per-flow approach to testing multi-play services, and Fanfare's proven expertise in test automation, provides customers with a complete testing package to ensure that they are delivering products and services of exceptional quality in a very competitive marketplace,” Ryan said.

NGN and LTE services and applications demand increased quality of service, or “QoS,” and quality of experience, or “QoE.” Per-flow test and measurement is the only mechanism to guarantee performance at these granular levels, which will enable providers to pinpoint application and individual user issues accurately, company officials said.

To develop the integrated IP communications testing solution, Shenick Network Systems will add full plug-in support for iTest, Fanfare's flagship test automation software. With this, Shenick's diversifEye will now enable service providers, cable multiple system operators, or “MSOs,” and NEMs to add per-flow testing to Fanfare's iTest automated testing environment.

The new testing environment enables NEMs and SPs to gain visibility into each network application and individual user-flow using Shenick's per-flow architecture. This approach of automating and sharing test cases results in an enhanced quality of products and services, reduced time to market, and improved productivity across the entire product development and service deployment life cycle.

“Solving QoS and QoE issues right down to each individual user continues to be one of the greatest challenges for our customers as they look to perfect multi-play services,” Robert Winters, CMO of Shenick, said. “Shenick and Fanfare now enable customers to build automated testing on a per-flow level into their processes resulting in cost savings and increased productivity.”

Shenick Network Systems recently announced that Technology Marketing Corporation, or TMCnet.com, has awarded Shenick with the 2009 IPTV (News - Alert) Excellence Award presented by INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine. The award recognizes Shenick’s vital service to test, measure and monitor advanced applications services, traffic flows and capabilities delivered over Data-over-Cable Service Interface Specifications 3.0.
