By Patrick Barnard, Group Managing Editor, TMCnet

i2Telecom (News - Alert), which offers the MyGlobalTalk VoIP phone service, has changed its name to Geos Communications.

In a release the company says the name change reflects its shift in focus from development to operations.

“This is a significant step in our evolution,” said CEO Andy Berman. “We have developed an exceptional intellectual property portfolio. We have leading-edge products that produce true value for our customers, and we have a world-class management team who have put into place clearly defined goals and proven strategies for moving our company forward. The name change was the final piece of the puzzle to signify the completion of one phase of this process, and the beginning of another.”

Along with the name change, the company has moved its headquarters from Atlanta, Ga. to Southlake, Texas. In addition the company’s ticker symbol is changing from ITUI to GCMI. A reverse 1:10 stock split was made effective May 14, 2009 by the company’s board of directors and shareholders and is now effective in the trading market.

Geos Communications is apparently gearing up to start aggressively marketing its MyGlobalTalk service, which delivers “high-quality phone calls, streaming video and text chat to customers on a global scale.” The VoIP service provides “reduced-cost international long-distance calling from any device: cell phone, landline or desk phone, and/or computer.”

It has reportedly already secured endorsements from Fred Couples, PGA TOUR veteran and President’s Cup Captain, and PGA TOUR player Tom Pernice, Jr.

In addition it has established a new channel partners program, led by Comstructure and VoxGem, and recently announced an agreement with Ztar Mobile, a leading Mobile Network Enabler (MNE), to become its preferred international long-distance discount provider. Ztar Mobile provides pre-paid global wireless solutions to more than 10,000 international retailers.

Geos also announced that it has secured its first enterprise customers, however the companies were not named in the release.

Geos’ patent-pending MyGlobalTalk solution works on traditional landline phones, mobile phones and personal computers. The company claims it is easy to use, download and maintain. What’s more it offers significant advantages over current competitors including simple, intuitive mobile application for BlackBerry (News - Alert), iPhone, Android (News - Alert), Symbian and Windows Mobile devices.

Geos delivers it VoIP service over its own network and the public Internet beyond its footprint. Its “secure world-class network” is designed for interoperability and scalability. It claims it delivers the highest quality of service for the price for international calls.

To date, the company has applied for 17 patents. Of those applications, two have been issued; two notices of allowance have been granted; and 13 more patents are pending.

In September i2Telecom announced that it had teamed up with Windmill International (News - Alert) to develop a special international calling service for U.S. military personnel serving abroad and their families. The two companies, in conjunction with the USO, will provide an international long-distance calling solution tailored for U.S. service men and women that is powered by i2Telecom’s MyGlobalTalk service.
