Hong Kong-based mobile operator CSL Limited, a subsidiary of Telstra Corp., and SIMtone Corp., have signed a broad-based, exclusive licensing agreement to develop cloud computing services for use over CSL’s next generation wireless network in Hong Kong.

CSL plans to use and showcase SIMtone-based solutions, and deliver cloud services and resell private-cloud SIMtone product solutions to businesses and consumers. Company officials said that CSL’s SIMtone-based solutions will be “pervasively” accessible and “seamlessly” usable from a multitude of fixed and mobile screens.

In addition, the solutions will be always connected to wireless all-IP network, delivering peak download speeds up to 21Mbps, said company officials.

The company’s vision is to fulfill the promise of technology to make its customers’ lives simpler and to empower people to create lifestyles that match their needs and desires, said Tarek Robbiati, group managing director at Telstra (News - Alert) International and CEO at CSL.

“Simplicity enriches our lives, and our strategic partnership with SIMtone will bring the value of simplicity to everyone everywhere,” Robbiati said.

SIMtone is a provider of Universal Computing Platform for the telecommunications industry. CSL said that its investment in its Next G HSPA+/LTE (News - Alert) network combined with SIMtone’s Universal Computing Platform create an “unprecedented” opportunity to “deliver and support an explosion in demand for the “anywhere digital life” from a new generation of business and consumer devices tailored to new “anywhere” applications.”

SIMtone’s Universal Computing Platform is a “plug-and-play” scalable intelligent-network computing solution. With this platform, operators and content providers can provision, aggregate and deliver all types of applications and services hosted in public or private “cloud” to a broad array of existing and new devices, including PCs, handsets, and the upcoming “third screen” devices.

Calling CSL a “visionary leader” of the wireless telecommunication industry in Hong Kong, Mario Dal Canto, chairman of the board and CEO of SIMtone, said that CSL has set “the direction for a new world of multimedia communication services that will keep us connected with our digital lives around the clock.”

“It’s a real game-changing formula that perfectly aligns with SIMtone’s ’Computing without your Computer’ vision of a world of simple, readily accessible computing and communication services always available via any device,” he added.

Last month, Thomson (News - Alert), a provider of services to content creators, and SIMtone announced a partnership to deliver home-mobility computing and entertainment products and services for consumers.
