MegaPath's New Duet Enables Hosted VoIP, Supported by High-QoS Network

By Brendan B. Read, Senior Contributing Editor

To make VoIP successful it needs to be integrated with a high quality of service network to provide latency/jitter-free clear and seamless communications: essential for clarity-demanding functions such as contact centers where “repeat thats” cost money in time and customer loyalty.

That’s why the voice quality is typically better when VoIP is available from the same broadband provider who owns or leases the pipes than from third party applications because they have built out and optimized their networks for voice.

At the same time VoIP-PBX (News - Alert) or IP-PBX systems can be costly to buy and install, especially for smaller firms that cannot spare the resources for capital outlays and consulting and integration costs. While the benefits in terms of flexibility and savings from VoIP, enabling key functions such as supporting branch and home offices are there, the upfront costs can present an obstacle to adopting it.

MegaPath (News - Alert) has launched DuetSM Hosted, providing users with a fully hosted VoIP offering that removes all management requirements that has the added benefit of access to the company’s private MPLS VPN network for the highest voice quality and stability. By routing voice and data traffic over this dedicated line, MegaPath ensures cloud-based QoS prioritization and built-in security.

Duet Hosted is a complete, cost-effective hosted IP PBX solution that gives businesses a feature-rich and scalable MegaPath’s Duet. It includes the following features:

*          Choice of broadband access – T1 or SDSL;
*          Advanced IP telephone feature package such as Auto Attendant; Call Forwarding options, Simultaneous Ring and Sequential Ring; Music on Hold and 4-digit Dialing Plan;
*          Fully-managed turnkey solution that includes design, installation and ongoing maintenance;
*          Low cost per employee;
*          Web-based portal for administrators and users that provides access to their account and training Webinar; and
*          Available anywhere Duet service is an alternative to traditional phone service and expensive equipment.

“Through 2009-2010 Gartner (News - Alert) has witnessed a significant uptake in business interest in hosted VoIP services,” said Daniel O’Connell, research director at Gartner. “We feel the North American Hosted VoIP market remains poised for growth through 2010 and 2011.”

“For years, larger enterprises have embraced VoIP to cut costs and increase productivity,” said Beth Tyebjee, senior vice president of products and project management, MegaPath.

“Today, mid-tier and small businesses with a distributed workforce can have all the features and functionality in a hosted environment that enables workers to be completely unified whether they are across the hall, across town or across state lines. As a cloud-based service, Duet Hosted provides the convenience of the Internet without the capital expenditures of investing in onsite infrastructure.”
