Twisted Pair Solutions Debuts Mobile Communicator for BlackBerry Smartphones

Twisted Pair Solutions announced the release of Mobile Communicator for BlackBerry (News - Alert) as part of WAVE 5.0, which helps users to “tune” their mobile device to a WAVE-supported radio channel. Twisted Pair specializes in Radio-over-IP or RoIP and is the maker of WAVE (News - Alert) unified group communications software.

The Mobile Communicator works on a simple concept and allows BlackBerry users to participate in a true push-to-talk experience for radio communications, said company sources.

In a release Tom Guthrie said, “As the capabilities of smartphone devices have advanced, our customers and partners have asked us to extend the WAVE software technology platform to better leverage the utility and cost advantages of these devices.”

“With WAVE 5.0, we’ve responded with a platform that allows users to securely extend the scope of their legacy radio systems with WAVE smartphone clients. This enables our partners to develop a wide variety of clients as enhancements to their WAVE-powered products and solutions,” added Guthrie.

Mobile Communicator for BlackBerry employs WAVE Thin Client technology to arrive at a new architecture for radio communications across cellular and WiFi (News - Alert) networks and it actually includes two applications in one. This can be used to communicate on a WAVE channel in similar ways to other WAVE endpoints. This is similar to a two-way radio as part of a larger radio network.

Company sources explained that it can also be used to enable secure, point-to-point calls between two devices across any network. Any Mobile Communicator-enabled BlackBerry user whether clocked in or off a radio network grid will provide a secure and omnipresent connection point to the broader radio communications network.
BlackBerry users can actually add value to radio conversations at all times whether off-duty or offline when critical communications is needed.

Mobile Communicator for BlackBerry is an application built on the WAVE Thin Client Platform. The platform leverages the power and military-grade security and encryption of the WAVE engine and the communications protocol. This solution eliminates device, network and radio system type as a barrier to communicate with two-way radio systems.

Company officials added that more smartphone applications are being designed and developed in collaboration with Twisted Pair’s ecosystem of partners for use on operating systems for iPhone, Windows Mobile, Android (News - Alert) and others.
