UK hosting company reports increase in registration of .ORG domains by not-for-profit organisations: attributes increase to a response to economic crisis
Aug 19, 2009 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) --
UK based web hosting provider and domain name register Fasthosts
Internet Ltd said today that it has seen a marked increase in the
number of .ORG domains being registered by non-profit organisations
during the past year with a 27% increase in the numbers compared to the
same period during 2008.
The company said that the growth lends weight to an argument that many
such organisations have initiated or grown web-based projects in
response to the global recession. Many UK charities have reported falls
in donation income since the economy slowed down, according to
Fasthosts.
It said that such growth in .ORG registrations may suggest that
non-profit bodies have stepped up investment in the Internet, with web
solutions now offer such groups extremely cost effective and scalable
channels for gathering support and participation for causes, and taking
donations directly from a website.
