SKYPE LAUNCHES IN ARABIC: Internet VoIP firm Skype has said that its website is now available in Arabic. The Arabic website has been launched to coincide with Eid Al Adha, Christmas and New Year, to enable Arabic speakers to connect with their families and friends.
EGYPTIAN TELECOMS FIRM EXPANDS INTO KENYA: Mobiserve, an Egyptian telecomms infrastructure firm has said it has set up an office in Kenya, as it seeks to expand its operations throughout Africa. The company intends to use its Kenyan office to serve the region by offering maintenance and other technical services to both satellite mobile communication service providers. Mobiserve has operations in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
AASTRA OFFERS VOIP NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE: Aastra Telecom Middle East has said that it has reinforced its role in the HP ProCurve Open Network Ecosystem alliance (HP ProCurve ONE) with the certification of two of its products with the HP ProCurve Services zl module. This solution offers full integration of an IP telephony application with a wired and wireless networking infrastructure. Aastra will launch its solution in November with EMEA region as the initial focus.
PALTEL AND ZAIN CANCEL DEAL: The Palestine Telecommunication Co (Paltel) has announced the deal Kuwaiti telecommunications firm Zain has been cancelled, Reuters has reported. Zain confirmed the cancellation of the deal with Paltel. Zain would have gained a majority stake in the Palestinian firm, if the deal pushed through. The Paltel board has issued a statement saying it considered the deal no longer effective and off as commitments made under the deal had not been fulfilled within an agreed timeframe. Paltel has 1.5 million mobile telephone users and operates in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
